1. Application of Lamb waves using piezoelectric technique for structure health monitoring
University essay from KTH/Hälsoinformatik och logistikAbstract : Structural health monitoring (SHM) is damage detection strategy for aerospace, civiland mechanical infrastructure. This project tries to show that Lamb waves, that are being generated and sensed with piezoelectric transducers, can be used for damage detection in a SHM system. READ MORE

2. Investigation of Methods to Improve PZT Sol-Gel Deposition Process for Energy Harvesting Applications
University essay from KTH/Hälsoinformatik och logistikAbstract : The purpose of this work was to investigate ways to modify Silex sol-gel deposition of PZT (PbZrxTi(1-x)O3, Lead Zirconate Titanate) in order to improve its properties for energy harvesting applications. A number of methods to improve the figure of merit for energy harvesting (FOM= e312/ε), cause self-polarization, increase lifetime, reduce cost, increase throughput or simplify processing were tested. 3. Enhancing Sensing in Nanoscale: Investigation of Smart Nanomechanical Cantilever Array
University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)Abstract : In this report, a novel smart nanocantilever with self-deflection sensor using embedded piezo-resistor and self-actuation using integrated piezo-electric actuator is proposed, designed and simulated to enable highly sensitive label free biosensor and ultra-short cantilever probe for AFM applications. The smart nanocantilever comprises of a triangular Si3N4 nanocantilever (10µm long, 400nm width and 100nm thickness) connected to a multi-layer support structure (Si3N4 (100nm)/PZT (100nm)) having n-type silicon piezo resistor (7µm long ,2µm width and 20nm thickness) embedded in the Si3N4 layer in both the support structure and nanocantilever. 4. Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers for Underwater Applications
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomiAbstract : Capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUT:s) are often used in medical imaging and they show some promise as underwater transducers. This thesis collates the available information about how CMUT:s operate, their strengths and weaknesses and investigates their efficiency as an underwater transducer. READ MORE

5. Optical Fiber sensing of acoustic waves using overlapping FBGs
University essay from Mittuniversitetet/Institutionen för elektronikkonstruktionAbstract : The objective of this thesis was to investigate if an optical fiber sensing method with the use of two overlapping fiber Bragg gratings to measure Lamb wave $S_0$ modes in a steel plate, and how it would compare to traditional PZT transducers. A solution was proposed where the use of an optical fiber sensing system was built and took advantage of the strain dependence of a fiber Bragg grating mounted to a steel plate. READ MORE
