  1. 1. Using GIS and satellite data to assess access of green area for children living in growing cities

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Rebecca Borg; [2024]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; Geographical Information System; Urban green space; children; schools; Malmö; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Urban green space (UGS) refers to open spaces within an urban context that are filled with greenery and nature. These can range from very small vegetation to expansive park areas. The common denominator is that they have proven to be beneficial for human health and well-being. Access to green spaces is also important for children. READ MORE

  2. 2. Primary Drivers of Sea Level Variability in the North – Baltic Sea Transition Using Machine Learning

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : David Ek; [2023-01-09]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Global mean sea level is rising, however not uniformly. Regional deviations of sea surface height (SSH) are common due to local drivers, including surface winds, ocean density stratifications, vertical land- & crustal movements and more. READ MORE

  3. 3. Importance of Snow in Alpine Plant Ecology : And Remote Sensing Applications in Species Modeling

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Author : Eva Meyer; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Global warming, with pronounced increases toward the poles and high latitudes, has impacts on alpine vegetation. If snow patterns change in response to global warming, snow parameters are predictors of interest in alpine plant species distribution and traits modeling because snow is known to strongly control the local growing conditions of alpine plants. 4. 4. Determination of semi-aerobic landfill suitability in tropical developing countries using land surface temperature : A case study of an unmanaged open dump in transition in Yangon City region, Myanmar

    University essay from Mittuniversitetet/Institutionen för ekoteknik- och hållbart byggande

    Author : Václav Pánek; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Population growth rate increases rapidly, which reflects on Municipal Solid Waste(MSW) generation rates and the accumulation in unmanaged open dumps and landfills in developing countries. Consequences of improper MSW management and treatment are not only local or regional but global since Methane (CH4) emissions are responsible for a notable part of the total anthropogenic CH4 emissions. 5. 5. Estimation of dissolved organic carbon from inland waters using remote sensing data and machine learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Lasse Harkort; [2022]
    Keywords : dissolved organic carbon; machine learning; remote sensing; inland waters; water quality; open source data; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the first attempt to estimate Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) in inland waters over a large-scale area using satellite data and machine learning (ML) methods. Four ML approaches, namely Random Forest Regression (RFR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and a Multilayer Backpropagation Neural Network (MBPNN) were tested to retrieve DOC using a filtered version of the recently published open source AquaSat dataset with more than 16 thousand samples across the continental US matched with satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 missions.
