  1. 1. “Experimental Assessment of the Effectiveness of Active Flaps to Reduce the Blade Root Bending Moment of Wind Turbine Blades”

    University essay from KTH/Mekanik

    Author : Adriano Sanchez Pena; [2016]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis intends to asses the application of local flow control to wind turbines blades, in order to demonstrate that the normal root benging moment on the blades can be reduced, with the aim of increasing wind turbines life span, reducing regular maintenance and further to make a contribution to current research on wind turbines. It develops the subject by first assessing the flow characteristics of the Großer Windkannal (GroWiKa) in the Hermann-Föttinger Institute (HFI) at the Technical University of Berlin and continues with establishing the effectiveness of local flow control on the Reasearch Wind Turbine (BeRT) designed by the institute. 2. 2. CFD Simulations of the New University of Sydney Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel

    University essay from Institutionen för teknikvetenskaper

    Author : Alexander Bertholds; [2012]
    Keywords : Computational fluid dynamics; CFD; fluid mechanics; wind tunnel; settling chamber; guide vanes; mesh; closed-circuit wind tunnel;

    Abstract : Using Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations, the flow in the new University of Sydney closed circuit wind tunnel has been analyzed prior to the construction of the tunnel. The objective was to obtain a uniform flow in the test section of the wind tunnel while keeping the pressure losses over the tunnel as low as possible. READ MORE
