  1. 1. Biogas Potential in the North of Sweden : Inventory and Techno-Economic Assessment of Substrates for an Increased Biogas Production in Norrbotten

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik (CI)

    Author : Alma Fahlén Hammar; [2023]
    Keywords : Biogas; anaerobic digestion; AD; Norrland; bioenergy; fossil-free; chemical engineering; Chemistry; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Great investments are planned in the north of Sweden the coming years, not the least in the county of Norrbotten where the projects collectively are referred to as the green transition due to the focus on fossil-free techniques. But to be able to secure a sustainable energy supply and reach the goal set by the member states of the European Union of a carbon dioxide neutral union in 2050 the production of alternative energy sources needs to intensify. 2. 2. Separation and acidification of digested animal manure : properties of the future organic fertilizers

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Author : Marie Björs; [2023]
    Keywords : Digestate; Eutrophication; Farmers’ survey; Plasma activation; Screw press;

    Abstract : Agricultural areas with a high animal density contribute to eutrophication in waterbodies and seas worldwide due to accumulation of nutrients around animal farms. Animal manure is heavy and bulky, thus unpractical to transport long distances and new techniques have been developed to refine animal manure and make it easier to transport. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nitrogen and phosphorus analysis in field cultivation of Pak choi : effect of two different compositions of fertilisers on plant and soil nutrient status

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Author : Joubin Haji Mirza Ali; [2020]
    Keywords : aged cattle manure; fertilisers; nitrogen; Pak choi; nutrient analysis; phosphorus; retting digest; waste materials;

    Abstract : This pilot study was implemented to reflect the delivery and the plant availability of nitrogen and phosphorus in response to different compositions of fertilisers approved for organic farming in Sweden. The experimental approach was to compare the concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus in plant sap of Pak choi plants grown in soil treated with different organic waste such as aged cattle manure and a liquid retting digest derived from the biogas industry, with plants grown in soil treated with a blend of pelleted organic fertilisers derived from the Swedish slaughterhouse industry. 4. 4. Multi-criteria assessment of biomethane production from waste and residual feedstocks of Emilia-Romagna (Italy)

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Energy and Technology

    Author : Giovanni Zanaroli; [2019]
    Keywords : biomethane; nutrients recycling; anaerobic digestion; multi-criteria assessment; transport;

    Abstract : Biomethane can be produced by anaerobic digestion of residues or wastes and it can be used as a renewable fuel for transport. It is associated with reduced GHG emissions, offsetting of fossil fuels and of mineral fertilizers, waste management and nutrient recycling in agriculture. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of a biogas process co-digesting slaughterhouse waste and swine manure : impact of increased organic loading and addition of iron

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Sara Ericsson; [2017]
    Keywords : biogas;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion by microorganisms generate methane which can be used as a renewable source of energy. A complex biological system with a community of microorganisms that work together can be used for generation of methane from substrates such as household wastes and agricultural wastes. READ MORE
