  1. 21. Euthanizing single or pairs of sick, injured or weak piglets with nitrogen foam : effects on animal welfare

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and Health

    Author : Emma Nilsson; [2021]
    Keywords : Euthanasia; animal welfare; anoxia; controlled atmosphere; nitrogen; behaviour;

    Abstract : In pig production, it is inevitable having to euthanize some piglets due to sickness, injuries or weakness. The methods available for euthanizing piglets that are 0-42 days are blunt force trauma and captive bolt followed by sticking. READ MORE

  2. 22. An Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian Finite Element Method for Shock Wave Propagation: Validating Simulations of Underwater Explosions

    University essay from KTH/Numerisk analys, NA

    Author : Sebastian Sandström; [2021]
    Keywords : finite element; applied mathematics; computational mathematics; hydrocode; arbitrary lagrangian-eulerian; LS-DYNA; tillämpad matematik; beräkningsteknik; finita elementmetoden; hydrokod; arbitrary lagrangian-eulerian; LS-DYNA;

    Abstract : Underwater explosions are often modeled with Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) Finite Element Methods. The objective of this thesis is to validate the simulation method, with respect to the propagating shock wave. A two-dimensional axisymmetric model of a spherical TNT charge submerged in water is simulated using LS-DYNA. READ MORE

  3. 23. A HUG OF LIGHT

    University essay from KTH/Ljusdesign

    Author : Markus Hölbling; [2021]
    Keywords : bedroom activities; circadian rhythm; contrast; human needs; lighting qualities; luminaire design; perception;

    Abstract : This project is an elaboration of how luminaire design can provide for fundamental human needs. Visual needs in terms of task performance, orientability and visual comfort; emotional needs in terms of soothing feelings of safeness and cosiness; and biological needs in terms of circadian rhythm and resetting of our biological clock in the morning. 4. 24. Control and Autonomy of a Water Quality Measuring Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) : Catfish project - Control and Autonomy

    University essay from Högskolan i Halmstad

    Author : Vidar Hårding; [2021]
    Keywords : catfish; control and autonomy; pixhawk; usv; motor configurations; catfish; kontroll och autonomi; pixhawk; vattendrönare; motorkonfiguration;

    Abstract : This report is about the implementation of autonomy and control on a water quality measuring unmanned surface vehicle. The project was termed Catfish and involved five teams focusing on different aspects of the initial goal to create an autonomous three-part system; a surface drone, a submerged drone and flying drone. 5. 25. Development of headspace solid phase microextraction gas chromatography mass spectrometry method for analysis of volatile organic compounds in board samples : Correlation study between chromatographic data and flavor properties

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för ingenjörs- och kemivetenskaper (from 2013)

    Author : Thea Zethelius; [2021]
    Keywords : Solid phase microextraction SPME ; method development; volatile organic compounds VOCs ; food contact material FCM ; flavor experience; design of experiment DoE ; multivariate analysis;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis work was to develop a headspace solid phase microextraction gas chromatography mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) method to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in board samples and to statistically investigate potential correlation between chromatographic data and flavor data obtained from a trained panel. The developed method would hopefully serve as a complement to the already established routine analyses at Stora Enso and gain an increased understanding of which VOCs in the board influence its flavor properties.
