  1. 1. Structural analysis of HZO thin film and electrode using X-ray diffraction

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Elliot Winsnes; [2024]
    Keywords : HZO; hafnia; hafnium dioxide; zirconium dioxide; ferroelectricity; ferroelectric; synchrotron radiation; X-ray diffraction; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Since its discovery in 2011, the ferroelectricity of thin films based on HfO2 has been studied intensively. In particular, thin films with a 1:1 ratio of HfO2 and ZrO2 (HZO) has been of great interest. The ferroelectricity arises from a non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic (o) phase of HZO whose prevalence is dependent on the processing conditions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Prospects for a Free Electron Laser at the FemtoMAX Beamline

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Johan Holmberg; [2024]
    Keywords : Free Electron Lasers; FEL; synchrotron radiation; MAX IV; FemtoMAX; GENESIS 1.3; XFEL; X-rays; soft X-rays; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : A Free Electron Laser (FEL), is a device that generates extremely coherent and brilliant radiation using electrons accelerated to relativistic velocities in a particle accelerator. The process utilises similar equipment to what is used at a synchrotron source like MAX IV, but in addition there is an interaction between the relativistic electron beam and the generated radiation to achieve an exponential growth in radiation intensity. 3. 3. Interfacial Dynamics at Surface Modified Molecular/Perovskite Solar Cells : How measurements are made to understand solar cell stability

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Benjamin Verbeek; [2023]
    Keywords : perovskite; solar cell; solar; energy; XPS; synchrotron;

    Abstract : Humanity has great energy demands, and must simultaneously combat climate change by curbing anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Perovskite solar cells (PSC) provide a low-carbon energy source, at lower production costs than traditional silicon-based solar cells. PSC's suffer some issues with long-term stability. READ MORE

  4. 4. Feasibility Study of X-ray Free Electron Lasers in Fourth Generation Storage Rings

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/MAX IV-laboratoriet

    Author : Jordis Hansen; [2023]
    Keywords : XFEL; Storage Ring; Synchrotron Radiation; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis studies the feasibility of a cavity based X-ray free electron laser in a fourth generation storage ring. The cavity design allows for modulation of the electron beam over several passes through the undulator. Simulations based on the PETRA IV facility are done to create the photon flux spectrum of a light pulse produced by an undulator. READ MORE

  5. 5. “Even if you bring 10,000 synchrotrons, they're not going to bring peace” - Exploring SESAME through realist and liberal perspectives

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Graduate School

    Author : Agnes Selnes; [2023]
    Keywords : SESAME; Middle East; science diplomacy; liberalism; realism; cooperation.; Social Sciences;

    Abstract : Intergovernmental organizations can be found in all regions around the world, but in the Middle East they are a rare phenomenon. SESAME is a synchrotron light radiation facility located in Jordan governed by its eight member states: Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, Palestine, and Turkey. READ MORE
