1. ASSESING HISTORICAL (1926-1996) NEAR-SURFACE WIND SPEED VARIABILITY ACROSS SWEDEN
University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperAbstract : Homogenized near-surface wind speed (NSWS) series of 7 stations from rescued observational journals have been analyzed for the 70-years time-period 1926-1996 to investigate past changes and variations across Sweden. During the whole period, there has been a statistically significant (at p < 0.05) decreasing trend of -0.11 m s-1 decades-1. READ MORE

2. Precipitation variability modulates the terrestrial carbon cycle in Scandinavia
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapsläraAbstract : Climate variability and the carbon cycle (C-cycle) are tied together in complex feedback loops and due to these complexities there are still knowledge-gaps of this coupling. However, to make accurate predictions of future climate, profound understanding of the C-cycle and climate variability is essential. READ MORE

3. Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating and Last Glacial Climate Reconstruction from the Lingtai Loess Section, Chinese Loess Plateau
University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperAbstract : High resolution dating of loess on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) using Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) has increased the understanding of past monsoon climate but also raised questions regarding dust mass accumulation rate (MAR), the presence of disturbances or gaps in the sediment record, a possible teleconnection between North Atlantic and East Asian monsoon climate, and whether these events are due to climate variability, local settings, or age model uncertainties. This study undertakes a detailed (<20cm sampling resolution) -OSL investigation of the Lingtai section to create an independent age model using linear regression, to reconstruct monsoon climate changes using magnetic susceptibility(MS) and grain size (GS) proxies, as well as to calculate MAR for the site. 4. Revealing distal drivers in coral reef social-ecological systems : Mapping land grabbing and human migration at a global scale
University essay from Stockholms universitet/Stockholm Resilience CentreAbstract : It is well recognized that coral reefs are suffering from a multitude of anthropogenic stressors which are threatening their integrity and existence. This includes stressors such as overharvesting, reduced water quality and habitat fragmentation. READ MORE

5. Nonlinear Chaotic and Trend Analyses of Water Level at Urmia Lake, Iran
University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresursläraAbstract : Urmia Lake is the largest habitat of Artemia Urmiana in the world located in an endorheic basin in northwest Iran. This shallow terminal lake has been designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and a National Park under the 1971 Ramsar Convention. READ MORE
