  1. 1. Reprocessing and Characterization of Polybenzimidazole for High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Douglas Björkengren; [2023]
    Keywords : polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells; PEMFC; HTPEMFC; polymer technology; polymer characterization; reprocessing; recycling; polybenzimidazole; PBI; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A reprocessing method of poly(2,2’-(m-phenylene)-5,5’-bibenzimidazole) (PBI) membranes recovered from the production line of High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (HT-PEMFC) at Blue World Technologies (BWT) has been developed in order to reduce material loss in the production. Redissolution of scrap PBI membranes in poly(phosphoric acid) (PPA) and phosphoric acid (PA) was successful and the subsequent washing procedure produced PBI that could be redissolved in N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) and suitable for solution casting of new membranes. 2. 2. Design and investigation of a pulsating heat pipe for electronic cooling

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Sulafa Hammad; [2023]
    Keywords : Pulsating heat pipes PHP ; Electronic cooling; two phase flow heat transfer; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study is to design and investigate a pulsating heat pipe device (PHP). A PHP is a two-phase flow heat transfer device which can handle high heat fluxes with passive internal flow. It is made of a continuous loop serpentine, partially filled with a working fluid that can cool systems, such as electronic devices. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of a computational method for determining gamma energy escape from calorimeters at CLAB

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Amela Mehic; [2022]
    Keywords : Nuclear physics; Calorimeter; SNF; MCNP; Dose rate; CLAB; Gamma energy; Fuel assembly; Form function; Attenuation coefficient; Gamma spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company- SKB has conducted measurement campaigns at the Swedish central interim storage facility for spent nuclear fuel- CLAB over the years, extending from year 2003 to 2019 where the gamma energy escape was acquired. At CLAB the spent nuclear fuel assembly is inserted into the calorimeter; device intended to measure temperature increase due to decay heat from the fuel assembly. READ MORE

  4. 4. Some Like It Hot: Pre-heating Prior to Bioreactor Treatment Enhances Nitrogen Removal From Mine Drainage

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Laura Nina Bettoni; [2022]
    Keywords : denitrification; nitrate removal; temperature; woodchip bioreactor; waste rock leachate;

    Abstract : Ammonium-nitrate based explosives (NH4NO3) used within the operations of Kiruna iron ore mine release nitrate (NO3-) into the environment, potentially having adverse effects on local river-systems. One way of reducing NO3- impacts to the environment is through a woodchip denitrifying bioreactor (DBR). READ MORE

  5. 5. Methods for measuring mercury in gas ebullition from fiber banks : A literature study

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Diana Jonsson; [2021]
    Keywords : Fiber bank; fiber rich-sediment; mercury; contaminants; gas ebullition; pulp-fiber; wood industry; paper industry; environmental toxicity; wood waste;

    Abstract : Mercury contamination is an environmental issue with high priority due to its high toxicity. In addition to the atmospheric deposition, several lakes and rivers in Sweden are contaminated as a result from wood and pulp-fiber industries which stretches back 200 years. READ MORE
