  1. 1. The Development of A Simple Engineering Calculation Method for Wildfire Scenarios

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Muthia Khairunisa Jaelani; [2022]
    Keywords : Wildfire; evacuation; WUI fire; evacuation modelling; traffic modelling; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Emergency planning is required to respond to the increasing wildfire threat. A part of this is to assess a community’s capacity to move to a safe place during wildfires. This can be achieved by calculating the time it takes for a community to evacuate from an at-risk area to a relatively safe place. READ MORE

  2. 2. THE USE OF ELEVATORS FOR EVACUATION IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Jiajia Li; [2022]
    Keywords : Elevators; residential buildings; Evacuation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This study focuses on the human factors associated with elevator use during evacuation in residential buildings. An online survey is conducted to explore seven factors that may influence people’s choice of elevators in China and the United Kingdom, including floor height, waiting time for elevators, crowd density in front of elevators, mobility limitations, instructions, fire location concerning people’s current location, and information about reliability of elevators during evacuation. 3. 3. Evaluating impact of table layout in classroom evacuation with crowd simulation

    University essay from KTH/Datavetenskap

    Author : Alexander Gustavsson; Sanjin Redzepagic; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : With the rise of hazardous events in classroom and school settings, the need for efficient and safe evacuation planning has never been more vital. Relying on intuition to draw conclusions, while often well intended, can do more harm than good. READ MORE

  4. 4. Visibility in Smoke With Different Extinction Coefficients

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Lea Elhokayem; [2022]
    Keywords : Visibility; smoke; exit sign; extinction coefficient; visibility constant; evacuation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Visibility in smoke has since the 1970s gained some attention, mostly after Tadahisa Jin ran the experiments which helped him develop todays widely used visibility equation. By showing that visibility can be assumed to be inversely proportional to the extinction coefficient by a visibility constant (equal to 8 for light emitting sign and 3 for light reflecting), Jin opened up new doors for researchers who were testing out his theory by going around experimenting in different ways and also by showing that there is way for more research to be done. 5. 5. Validation of WUI-NITY compared to real-world data

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Jonatan Edenvik; [2022]
    Keywords : Wildland urban interface; Wildfires; Community evacuation; Real-world simulation; WUI-NITY; PeMS; Pedestrian simulation; Traffic simulation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis compares the wildfire evacuation simulation programme, WUI-NITY, against real-world data by analysing and comparing three wildfire events of the past. The wildfire events were all limited to be within the state of California and was further analysed based on the available quality of data derived of the chosen database. READ MORE
