  1. 1. Investigation of MIDEL 7131’s Dielectric Breakdown Strength and Thermal Behaviour : Master Thesis, an experimental study using concentric-like electrodes at elevated temperatures to study breakdowns

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Kim Lin; [2023]
    Keywords : Dielectric strength; High voltage; Liquid dielectric; MIDEL 7131; Electrical breakdown; Temperature cycle; Dielektrisk styrka; Högspänning; Dielektriska vätskor; MIDEL 7131; Elektrisk nedbrytning; Temperaturcykling;

    Abstract : Dielectric insulation are constantly exposed to various stresses, while also being expected to last for long periods of time. Naturally, they degrade with use and in demanding operational environments, this degradation phenomena can be accelerated, leading to costly consequences. READ MORE

  2. 2. Investigation of ion mobility in insulation liquids for transformers.

    University essay from

    Author : Bruce Dondogori; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis studies a method of measuring ion mobility in insulation liquids for transformers (transformer oil). This method works by using a square wave voltage to make the charged particles (space charge) inside the oil move between two electrodes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Measurements of resistivity in transformer insulation liquids

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för elektroteknik

    Author : Jonathan Hägerbrand; [2020]
    Keywords : transformer oil; resistivity; ions; ion drift model; HVDC; contact resistance;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on measuring techniques and results of resistivity in four commercially available insulating transformer oils: mineral oil, ester oil and two isoparaffin oils. Two measuring techniques, the industrially used diagnostic system for electrical insulation IDA and the Labview implemented Triangular Method, are used for resistivity measurements and the techniques are compared, a correction algorithm to the triangular method is suggested. 4. 4. The Sustainability related opportunities and challenges with various transformer insulation fluids and business case on re-refining

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemivetenskap (CHE)

    Author : Ibrahim Gharib Ali Jalal; Abdulbasit Abdulaziz Ali; [2017]
    Keywords : Transformer oils; LCA; Re-refining; Business case; Sustainability;

    Abstract : Transformers are electrical devices used in practice to increase or decrease voltages. Transformers are of various sizes and used mainly in power distribution. To provide cooling and insulation, transformer oils are used together with cellulose that acts as a solid insulation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional performance criteria for comparison of less flammable transformer oils with respect to fire and explosion risk

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik; Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Riskhantering och Samhällssäkerhet

    Author : Denis Hellebuyck; [2013]
    Keywords : Flammability; transformer oils; fire and explosion risk; cone calorimeter test; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Power grids worldwide are expanding not only driven by ambitious clean energy, but also because of the rising need for reliable energy. Key components of these power grids are transformers. Transformers are traditionally filled with mineral oil, to serve as a coolant and dielectric insulator. READ MORE
