  1. 1. On the Interaction Between Electromagnetic, Gravitational, and Plasma Related Perturbations on LRS Class II Spacetimes

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Philip Semrén; [2021]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we investigate the interaction between electromagnetic, gravitational, and plasma related perturbations on homogeneous and hypersurface orthogonal Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) class II spacetimes. By using these spacetimes, which allow for the inclusion of a non-zero magnetic field, as backgrounds in a perturbative approach, we are able to see interactions between the electromagnetic and gravitational variables already to first order in the perturbations. 2. 2. Waring’s Problem and the Hardy-Littlewood circle method

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematik LTH; Lunds universitet/Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten)

    Author : Francisco Gonçalves Jorge Dias de Carvalho; [2021]
    Keywords : Hardy-Littlewood Weyl sums Weyl s inequality Hua s lemma Vinogradov major arcs minor arcs singular series; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : In this bachelor thesis, we appply the Hardy-Littlewood circle method to Waring's problem using Vinogradov's exponential sums approach. On the last section, we focus on the consequeces of the recently proved Vinogradov's mean value theorem... READ MORE

  3. 3. Dissipative Perturbations on LRS Class II Cosmologies Using the 1+1+2 Covariant Split of Spacetime

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Philip Semrén; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : By including dissipative fluxes in the description, this thesis extends previous results regarding first order perturbations on homogeneous and hypersurface orthogonal locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) class II cosmologies using the 1 + 1 + 2 covariant split of spacetime. Whereas previous works consider perturbations of perfect fluid type, perturbations pertaining to heat flux and fluid viscosity are here studied with the aim to ascertain their effect on the evolution of the fluid vorticity. 5. 5. Ab initio simulations of topological phase transitions in Dirac semimetal Cd3As2 doped with Zn and Mn impurities

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för fysik och elektroteknik (IFE)

    Author : Andrea Rancati; [2019]
    Keywords : Topological materials; Dirac semimetals; Weyl semimetals; ab initio simulation; first-principles;

    Abstract : In this work we exploit the unique characteristics of a Dirac semimetal material to be symmetry-protected, to investigate dierent topological phase transitions provided by chemical dopings, focusing in particular on the electronic, magnetic and topological properties of the doped systems, studied by the mean of rst-principles methods based on density functional theory (DFT) approach. In particular these doped systems, besides being of interest for investigating the role of topology in solid state physics, could have a great potential for practical application since the dierent topological phases that come along with the chemical dopings allow one to exploit the unique properties of topological materials.
