  1. 1. Characterization of the Hydrothermal Alteration around the Björkdal Au Deposit, Skellefte District, Sweden

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Geovetenskap och miljöteknik

    Author : Madeleine Erneholm; [2017]
    Keywords : Gold Ore; Mine; Skellefte District; Sweden; Quartz Lode; Hydrothermal Alteration; Petrography; Lithogeochemistry; Intrusion-related Gold;

    Abstract : Sixteen samples from 8 locations within and surrounding the Björkdal mine area in northern Sweden were chosen in order to reevaluate and characterize previous interpretations of the lithology and hydrothermal alteration. Geochemical analysis by ICP-MS was made in order to chemically classify the lithology of the area and petrological studies were made by study of thin sections and core logging. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Origin of the Gran Canarian Xenoliths

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Beatrice Jägerup; [2016]
    Keywords : Gran Canaria; Xenoliths; Oxygen Isotope Value; Thin Section Analysis; EPM;

    Abstract : Xenoliths are pieces from the surrounding bedrock, brought to the surface of the earth by host magma. On Gran Canaria, the largest island in the Canary Islands archipelago, strange xenoliths have been found. They are light in color, porous and very different from the basaltic magma carrying them. 3. 3. Determining the depth of magma storage by investigation of samples from the eruption on La Palma 1971

    University essay from Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Anna Svensson; [2013]
    Keywords : canary islands; volcanism; magma storage;

    Abstract : The Canary islands are formed by a slow moving hotspot, from Fuerteventura 20 Ma to el Hierro 1.2Ma years old and La Palma is in the shield building stage of evolution. La Palma had its last eruption 1971 and has had seven eruptions since 1430, which makes it the most active of the islands in our times. READ MORE

  4. 4. Constraining Crustal Volatile Release in Magmatic Conduits by Synchrotron X-ray μ-CT

    University essay from Berggrundsgeologi

    Author : Sylvia Berg; [2011]
    Keywords : xenoliths; crustal gases; synchrotron X-ray μ-CT; 3D-bubble networks; gas migration; magmatic volatile budget; explosive eruption;

    Abstract : Magma-crust interaction in magma reservoirs and conduits is a crucial process during magma evolution and ascent. This interaction is recorded by crustal xenoliths that frequently show partial melting, inflation and disintegration textures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Disintegration and Devolatilisation of Sandstone Xenolith in Magmatic Conduits: an Experimental Approach

    University essay from Berggrundsgeologi

    Author : Sylvia Berg; [2010]
    Keywords : xenolith; melting; bubbles; gas migration; crustal volatiles; magma-crust interaction; magma volatile budget; explosive eruption;

    Abstract : Xenoliths preserve evidence of magma-crust interactions in magmatic reservoirs and conduits. They reveal processes of partial melting of country rock, and disintegration into magma. Widespread evidence for frothy xenoliths in volcanic deposits exists, and these evidently indicate processes of gas liberation, bubble nucleation and bubble growth. READ MORE
