Development of the Winding Geometry for an Efficient Wave Power Generator
Abstract: A method for twisting a stranded cable in orderto reduce losses due to circulating currents is investigated. Atheoretical model connecting the voltages over individual strandsto the magnetic flux through the cable is presented. A modelsimplifying the geometry of the cable is developed. Twistingsolutions are investigated both analytically and through the use ofa computer model for a simplified magnetic field. The sensitivityof these solutions to variation in the magnetic field is analysedfor a 40 strand cable. The limitations of the model and problemsassociated with applying it to a cable of 110 strands are discussed.
