Abstract: This study examines a sustainable development project in Stockholm, Sweden. The sustainable development project takes place in an area called Snösätra, where there is an ongoing ecological restoration project to implement a nature reserve in order to clean up the ground from industrial waste. The green project resulted in demolition of Snösätra’s southern part. The demolition decision was met with strong opposition, which motivated this study to examine parts of the political and planning process in the case of Snösätra, emphasising justice. Through a qualitative approach, conducting semi-structured interviews and document analysis, the thesis attempts to answer: How have local actors in Snösätra experienced the case of Snösätra regarding decision-making, planning, recognition and communication? To what extent are local actors in Snösätra recognised in the planning documents? How is it manifested? How and to what extent is social sustainability manifested in the case of Snösätra? The material is analysed through the theoretical and conceptual frameworks of political ecology, environmental justice, green gentrification and redlining. This study concludes that the case of Snösätra contain evidence that reveals that a justice perspective in the political and planning process around the case is lacking.
