SCA Skogs arbetsmetoder för att fastställa nyttan av en väginvestering
Abstract: The basis of road investments is to minimize the transportation cost. The forest industry wants roundwood to be available during the whole year. One way of determine which road to invest in is to do a cost/benefit calculation. SCA Forest lacks a uniform approach to determine the utility of a road investment. The goal of this report is to describe how the organization works today and find areas of improvement. The data collection was done through interviews. A total of six forest road officials, thirteen district managers and two management representatives where interviewed. The interviews were compiled and a general way of working with forest road investment was established, then the differences between the forest districts were studied. How the forest road officials and the district managers choose to motivate a road investment differ. The main differences were which tools they use while doing the cost/benefit calculation and how they document the result of the cost/benefit calculation. Some suggestions on how to improve the work methods were developed. Good long-term plans will help reduce the internal stress. Good plans are the basis of good routines. The organization needs to develop uniform routines within the organization on how to work with forest road investments. They also need to gather the work methods that already work well and spread them inside the organization. Finally, they need to develop tools that help the district managers gather the data needed to do cost/benefit calculations.
