Abstract: At CERN, the European laboratory for particle physics, work is well underway
on the new circular particle accelerator Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which
will be operational around 2007. Certain control systems in the LHC use
WorldFIP fieldbusses, and in order to supervise these systems more
efficiently a gateway is being designed. The gateway connects the WorldFIP
fieldbus to an Ethernet network where an ordinary PC or Programmable Logic
Controller (PLC) can be used for monitoring and controlling the control
systems. This thesis describes part of the development of the above-
mentioned
Ethernet/WorldFIP gateway.
