Abstract: The building industry is today facing a change of generations and at the same time there is a generation gap. That makes it hard to cover up for the loss of expertise because of the retirements. According to different surveys there are currently enough students graduating to fill that gap. The problem is the students’ lack of experience. A commitment to mentoring and teaching the younger members of the staff and share the knowledge that the organization possesses could be an alternative. This report deals with the benefits that a learning organization brings and what conditions is required to sustain one. To be able to share knowledge one must first know how and what knowledge manifests itself in the organization and how it’s shared. WSP has since 2004 conducted co-worker studies in the different parts of the organization. The purpose of these studies is to identify the current situation in the company to find areas of improvement. A survey is sent out regarding questions that focuses on the co-workers situation at work concerning organization support, goal- and development discussions and the personal work situation. This evaluates what the co-workers think about their current situation at work. There is a need to investigate what possibilities there are to make the different routines and procedures that affects the work process. As a starting point the questions from the coworker studies have been used to interview different members of the organization. The purpose of this degree thesis is to make the organization more efficient. This is achieved by focusing on the good examples from the organization and identifying the factors that is the most important for the work process to be efficient. It’s about long term efficiency when it’s about measures that benefits co -workers because the results doesn’t show directly. The individual in the organization is the most important asset, a commitment to the suggestions that follows the report is more directed to the younger members of the organization might be good considering the current situation on the market. It all comes down to the local situation however. Important factors are: Workload, Knowledge Management, Feedback and Solidarity
