Fallstudie av innergårdar och entréplan vid Televerket i Farsta : dokumentation, värdering och framtida utveckling

University essay from SLU/Dept. of Urban and Rural Development

Abstract: There are few legally protected gardens in Sweden, and those that are protected are mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries. All time periods have the same value and more modern gardens therefore needs to be protected. Evaluating parks is, however, complicated since it do not exist any methods. One environment from the 1960’s that has not been protected is Televerket in Farsta, Stockholm. The facility has been classified as worthy of preservation by Stockholm City Museum and has received the Kasper Salin Prize. The outdoor environment is designed by Sven Olov Nyberg and consists of seven courtyards and one entrance area. The environment was redesigned between 1989-2004 and some of the courtyards went through major changes. The purpose with this thesis is to describe the current design and character of an historical environment from the 20th century and to depict the differences from the original blueprints. The purpose is also, based on the current design and the original blueprints, to preserve and develop the cultural values of today by redesigning and developing suggestions for management objectives. By combining several methods and adjusting them, we created a method to handle cultural historical environments. We made inventories over the places within Televerket by using a method by Arne Branzell. We combined the method with the evaluation system of the Swedish National Heritage Board. According to the system we evaluated the environment. We redesigned the places that got low marks, restored or preserved the places with high marks and did a gently redesign with the rest of the places. Cultural historical places can be protected as a National Interest or Cultural Heritage. According to international recommendations, should the facility’s character and cultural historical values be preserved. One should also see the real estate as a whole and preserve physical and non-physical values. Our opinion is that you have to follow these guidelines and adjust the design after the functional needs of today. Our redesign took inspiration from Nybergs blueprints since we saw a value in his use of one idea per place. The current garden maintenance contract is unspecific and general. We developed maintenance goals to prevent more values from disappearing and to implement our design. The two most important contributions with our work is documentation, evaluation and future suggestions for Televerket and also the development of a method which can be used as inspiration in coming work.
