Abstract: It has been shown that firms that perform benchmarking and are aware of the external environment are more likely to succeed. An approach to benchmarking is innovation benchmarking, which is a concept used to describe what factors that contribute to a benchmarking success. As for all types of benchmarking, the goal is to accomplish a better and more beneficial organization but it is not always easy to identify what other companies, industries or governments do well. Measuring innovation can be difficult, and it is therefore important to find the right variables and using the right performance metrics to be able to analyze the best practice. The book chapter gives a good understanding for the importance of benchmarking and how it can be used. The author has good knowledge and experience about the subject and the context of the chapter is well structured. The language makes the subject interesting and as a reader, you want to turn to the next page. This chapter, from the book Global Innovation Science Handbook (2014), is worth reading because of the good context and the information it provides.
