Environmental labeling of constructions - a study of constructor opinions
Abstract: This thesis has been written under the consultation of Skanska Hus Norrköping and aims to investigate the differences between environmental label systems regarding constructions. Interviews aiming to investigate the knowledge of environmental label systems have been made with representatives of local constructors. The systems that have been analysed are the international systems BREEAM, LEED and GreenBuilding, and the national systems Svanen and Miljöklassad Byggnad. BREEAM and LEED are the most comprehensive systems in terms of number of aspects. Some of these aspects were by the interviewees considered hard to implement in Sweden, because of the differences in national regulations. The environmental labelling systems Svanen and Miljöklassad Byggnad are better suited for the Swedish conditions and could therefore be more successful in Sweden. GreenBuilding differs from the other systems because it solely focuses on the energy consumption and that it is intended for commercial buildings only. During the interviews we realised that the interviewees knowledge concerning environmental label systems were poor, as well as their interest in labelling their buildings with an “eco-label”. However, the interviewees find most of the aspects that are included in the environmental label systems important. An interpretation of this could be that the constructors have an interest in building environmental friendly but they do not feel the need to label their buildings.
