Interpretations of meat consumption : a critical analysis of interpretative repertoires of individuals working in an environmental NGO

Abstract: This article presents a discursive analysis with data from interviews conducted with women working in an environmental organisation who were asked to explain their views of meat consumption and the need of reduction thereof. The interviews were semi-structured and analysed with focus on interpretative repertoires, ideological dilemmas and subject positions to identify patterns of meaning making around meat consumption. In the data seven broader repertoires emerged, suggesting that the participants make sense out of meat consumption with help of repertoires that at times are contradictive. The repertoires used ultimately uphold a positive view of meat consumption, resulting in the maintenance thereof.
