Abstract: This thesis investigates if dependence on natural resources causes a delayed demographic transition. The Plurinational State of Bolivia is taken as an example as it is a country with a high share of Mining \& Oil activities in its economy. The method of investigation is a time series analysis covering the period 1900--2010. The results suggest that Bolivia's resource-depleting activities do not necessarily hamper its human capital accumulation but that the link from financial support translating into qualitative enhancements seems to malfunction. If Bolivia manages to control this lack of translation, it should not suffer from its natural resource depletion but rather be able to encourage its human capital accumulation simultaneously.
