Abstract: This paper examines the correlations between theFive Factor Model personality traits and burnout in softwaredevelopers. Several studies have measured these correlations inthe past, both for general populations and within specific fields,but to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to dothis within the field of software development. This study aimsto validate generalizations of findings in other fields while alsofilling the gap in the literature in relating this correlation tosoftware developers. To do this, an online survey consisting of aminiaturized International Personality Item Pool questionnairefor measuring the Five Factor Model personality traits, and theShirom-Melamed Burnout Measure for measuring burnout, wasdistributed to several open source developer mailing lists, netting47 valid responses.
