Replacing a physical console with an iPad
Abstract: This thesis report presents an iPad application built for replacing a physical display console on an indoor exercise-bike. The paper attempts to answer whether it's possible to do this sort of replacement and what possible consequences it could have. The paper details the actual implementation and important design decisions such as Wi-Fi vs Bluetooth or iOS vs Android are discussed. The class structure and coding philosophy of the project are presented as well as choice of IDE and language. Part of the purpose behind replacing the old console is to improve the user experience. This papers describes in detail the user interface of the developed application as well as guidelines for how such an application should be constructed. The paper concludes that it is possible to replace the console on the EB200 exercise-bike with a tablet application and that it has the potential to be a superior solution.
