University essay from Lunds universitet/Certec - Rehabiliteringsteknik och Design; Lunds universitet/Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi

Abstract: The airline industry has been on a steady rise the last couple of decades and so has the range of different kinds of digital entertainment options onboard commercial airliners. As the technology onboard airliners has become more and more advanced, the possibility to offer passengers different kinds of digital experiences have risen. Most airline companies nowadays offer large movie libraries, single player games and more on long haul flights, however there is still room for innovation within this area. This thesis aims to investigate several aspects of multi-passenger games to be played onboard airliners. In order to do this, a thorough iterative design process was conducted which among other things included a literature study, crafting of a game concept, the creation of multiple lo-fi prototypes, and towards the end an implementation of a working hi-fi prototype of a quiz game with questions tied to flight routes. In order to achieve a user centered design, the different prototypes were tested along the way on users in the targeted user group.
