Temporary work service delivery - organizational and strategic effects on the consulting firm
Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze what role temporary work services play in consulting firms and how offering these services affects the offering and delivery of other services of the firms. The study is based on a combination of semi-structured interviews with professionals on various hierarchical levels and a participating research within consulting firms. The approach is qualitative, critical and reflective. The short-term profits that supplying temporary work services can generate is an opportunity for the firms studied as it can act as a supplement to other services and generate assignments to non-allocated staff. It can also provide an opportunity for re-concentration or diversification. But supplying temporary work services effectively, seems to require other ways of working and organizational responsibility structures than other professional services. Consequently major shifts of service focus will affect the organization, the functional responsibilities and the input and output market on a long-term basis.
