An Electric Shared Mobility Service for Residents : A Stakeholder Study
Abstract: In the 20th century, cars played a vital role in the design and shaping of cities. People started to own a car on a large scale. It led to a steady rise in the number of private cars. That results in creating several issues in parking and makes the environment unsustainable. In comparison with non-residential areas, residential areas face various challenges with the traditional parking space. The Swedish housing organization employed Electric Shared Mobility Service for residents as a pilot test in three areas in a Swedish municipality to overcome the alarming problem. The purpose of this study is to identify and examine key factors that housing organizations should consider when implementing shared mobility services in residential areas. The qualitative research has been conducted from the perspective of the stakeholders. An in-depth, semi-structured interview is conducted with several representatives in the housing organizations. For the interview, an open-ended questioner guide was crafted to understand the stakeholder perceptions of implementing new mobility services, drawbacks of traditional parking infrastructure, and challenges in launching new mobility services. The collected data from an interview is analyzed using the Grounded theory analysis, and the thematic area is found. Furthermore, the results were analyzed from two perspectives to answer the key research question: Organization analysis and Cross-Case analysis. In organization analysis, it is found that each organization faces different challenges. The main factors that each organization should consider in implementing new services are explained. The cross-case analysis results show that key important cases across three organizations are derived and concluded in five insights. Based on the result from the qualitative study, the actionable recommendation was proposed to overcome the negative aspect and improve the possibility of service happening in residential areas.
