The Complexity of Aisatsu

Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to provide a broader, more multifaceted picture of aisatsu. It is common when discussing aisatsu to only look at its immediate functions thus overlooking a lot of qualities that it has. In the present thesis, background material regarding aisatsu, public speaking and the speech genre “wedding speeches” is provided. This is because the research involves an analysis of wedding speeches to find aisatsu properties. The analysis is based on mentioned background material and transcribed speeches from the webpage “Youtube”. In the results of this analysis the complexity of aisatsu becomes evident.
