Community-Based Ecotourism as an alternative to mass tourism, in Bali

University essay from Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för ekonomi och samhälle

Abstract: The case study presented is based on fieldwork which took place in March through May, 2016. It aims to determine whether and to what extent Community-Based Ecotourism (CBET) initiatives constitute a sustainable livelihood strategy, to local people living disconnected from mass tourism development in Bali, Indonesia. This is done by examining the local residents’ perceptions of tourism impacts, and their views on the differences between a CBET approach and conventional tourism, through in-depth respondent interviews.
