Abstract: This is a Master Thesis commissioned by Scania CV AB in Södertälje, Sweden. The work was carried out during spring 2008 at the group CAx Applications and Support, UTIA. The purpose has been to investigate areas concerning the IT-education that affects the end-user directly. Scania develops and produces trucks and busses and in product development at Scania the IT-application CATIA V4 is being used. Because of the current implementation of the newer version, CATIA V5, UTIA thinks it is important that the end-users acquire enough knowledge and understanding during the education of the IT-application to work independently after completed education. The goal of the Master Thesis has been to generate improvements, for IT-education in general, that increases the conditions for more effective learning and a satisfied end-user. To succeed with that the work is based on a thorough analysis of current situation where the responsible for the education has been interviewed and a CATIA V5 class has been observed. An end-user study based on interviews with end-users of CATIA V5 and LayCAD has been carried out. The purpose was to get the end-users opinions and thoughts of current education process. A survey has been made as a quantitative complement to the end-user study. Analysis of the end-user study and the survey shows that Scania succeeds very well with motivating its employees to participate in education. They have a wide range of education, which renders a high competence development. They are working in the right direction trying to adjust the IT education to the end-users. To succeed even better a wider range of exercises should be available to the end-users with different work situations. Scania must provide more Super users to the main introduction of CATIA V5. Official Super users should be available at every group and information to where to find them. By over viewing and changing the IT pedagogic Scania will increase the conditions for a more independent end-user. It is also necessary that every end-user get the support and possibility to allocate time to continue learning the IT tool after completed education. Other tasks during that time must have less priority. The education has had bad timing for many end-users. Therefore it is extra important that Scania adjusts time for education to the endusers needs.
