Abstract: This Master´s thesis discusses the problems concerning inverse halftoning, which means converting a halftone image into a continuous tone one. The thesis evaluates the use of inverse methods, showing promising results. The algorithm is implemented and tested using Matlab and serves as a prototype for possible full scale applications. The work is based upon previously published articles on the subject, along with basic halftoning and printing theory. This serves as a starting point from which the proposed method is developed, and the results are in some areas competitive against other, previously published approaches.
