Abstract: The thesis project was performed together with Proforma Clinic which is a surgical clinic that has started a project for developing a modular-based bra. The project’s aim was to develop a bra with an optimal fit with a focus on the integration of the modules. In addition, a research question about benefits with modularization in the clothing industry was investigated and answered. First, an examination of the potential of the idea and the current market were explored. This was done by literature research, market research, and interviews, and a survey with future customers and users. A big gap in the market was discovered where no major innovations have been developed in the Swedish bra market in recent years. A superior problem of the fitting of the bra used today among women of all ages was discovered. Henceforth, a need and demand for improvement were clear. In addition, a need for major changes in the clothing industry was discovered due to the environmental problems existing today. Thereafter, eight different concepts of integration were developed and presented as CAD-models and printed out by a 3D printer. The user test and a decision method contributed to a final concept which was made into a real prototype which included all the parts of the modular bra. The final prototype and concept of the modular bra will provide the user comfort, support, and a pleasing appearance which were the three most important factors for the customer. The user is able to get a custom made bra with only a few measurements and can easily change parts of the bra to match the specific need. This will also affect the environment by reduced consumption and replacement of individual parts instead of throwing an entire garment when damaged. Other benefits are reduced washing, custom-made but mass-produced and the number of clothing stocks will decrease. In parallel, the research question: “What are the benefits and gains of using modularization in the clothing industry and in particular the bra industry?” was investigated by studying literature and conclusions from interviews and a survey. Several benefits of modularization in the clothing industry were discovered, such as the possibility to customize clothes and variety according to the customer’s needs. Several environmental benefits were also concluded like the reduction of waste and overproduction.
