Abstract: This Master Thesis is dealing with a vision system for analysing the quality of a fabric that is used in the paper industry when the water is to be removed from the pulp. When the loom is stopped by any reason the fabric tends to slide a bit in one direction or the other which makes the density rise or decline and make a mark in the fabric. To avoid this the weaver has to adjust the loom before restarting it and this is of course quite a big problem since the position has to be within some 1/100o mm to avoid a mark in the fabric. The attempt is to create a system that can adjust the fabric automatically as start up and while the loom is running determine the dimensions of the threads, the density of the fabric in shots per decimetre and the stacking, that is the way the threads are placed in the fabric in relation to each other. For example they can be placed on top of each other (0% stacking) or beside each other (100% stacking) In addition to this the shot density is to be adjusted if it differs from the reference so the quality of the fabric the PC-program to the PLC controlling the loom results in adjustment of its movements
