Abstract: It is an interdisciplinary study, that combines all the technical aspects of modern embedded platform’s development, from design to validation of software and hardware. The underlying question is, whether the wireless communication can be treated as a sensible alternative to the isoSPI daisy-chain interface. Design of hardware involves selection of hardware components and a PCB design of wireless cell monitoring board. The estimated cost of the hardware has to be further reduced to compete with cable connection. Wireless battery management system is developed with focus on satisfying strict safety requirements. We reason about the implications of different approaches in the design and select a wireless standard, that is evaluated using a number of QoS metrics. We implement a novel transaction protocol to facilitate a robust communication scheme inside of BMS network and demonstrate the behavior of the mesh network using state-of-art system on chip. The selected wireless technology does not fulfill the requirement of 100 millisecond transaction time due to very high latencies observed during network tests.
