Hyndevad Recreation and Conservatory

University essay from KTH/Arkitektur

Abstract: The purpose of the project was to design and develop a public hybrid building, focusing on innovative ways to connect different needs that exist in society. You were assigned a basic program to interpret and develop in relation to a chosen site and the conditions of that area. Then you created a plus program that would interact with the basic program to create optimal conditions. Sites were chosen from a delimited part of Eskilstuna's rural area. This project focuses on sustainability and recreation; a greenhouse where neglected or unwanted plants can be restored and give joy to others. Some plants find new homes while others are placed in the greenhouse's showrooms where people of all ages can enjoy the environment. Here you have the chance to, for example, stroll around the various paths, sit down and sketch or enjoy a book. You can also take part in the greenhouse's workshops, for example, lectures on sustainability, film showings or painting opportunities. Here you will find something for all ages. The result became a hybrid building with focus on sustainability, where residents can relax, be inspired and deepen their knowledge on important subjects.
