Can you get consultants to update their CV more often by asking them how they are doing? : A design study on how behavior changing design can impact consultant CV writing

University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

Abstract: Consultants do not update their CVs enough - partly because it is boring, partly because they do not have the time, and partly because it requires a lot of detail. Using motivational theories as the base, this thesis tries to improve the consultant CV writing experience using persuasive design and gamification. Using the Double Diamond design process, a consultant CV writing platform is analyzed, and ideas to motivate the consultants form. A solution, connected to the Fogg Behavioral Model, is implemented into the platform. In it, the consultants are notified regularly and encouraged to reflect on their current work tasks connected to their well-being - meaning they are automatically updating their CV as they go. This solution is evaluated by interviews, where 19 consultants of varying age, gender, and seniority take part. The solution is deemed to be a good starting point. It becomes evident that having a clear purpose and goal is one (and possibly the biggest) key to success. A next step in continuing this research could be to look into other motivational theories or habit formation.
