Abstract: Future generation wireless systems will require easy and quick deployment of mobileservices. This quick mobile service deployment is not possible with the existingstructure of current wireless systems because of many constraints, such as, limitedbattery, memory constraints, format of applications and sporadic bandwidth. Theseconstraints should be considered when delivering applications to mobile devices. Thismaster thesis aims to identify the requirements and functionalities of future generationmobile application deployment technology. This thesis is a part of IST-MIDASproject, a project funded by the European Commission. MIDAS project goal is todeliver a middleware that helps application developers to speed up mobile applicationdevelopment. The focus of this thesis is the development of deployment module, acomponent responsible for the delivery of mobile applications to end users based ontheir current context. The key concept of the deployment of mobile applications is tobreak an application into multiple sub packages, hence reducing the download time ifsome packages already exist on the end user’s file system. These packages are madeavailable to all user nodes through MIDAS shared data space (MDS). The MDS actsvirtually like a centralized database where MIDAS users can access the data by usingnormal SQL language. When a user wants to launch an application, only anapplication id is supplied to the deployment module and all necessary files will beautomatically downloaded and launched. This provides the convenience to end userswho do not have much knowledge in mobile application deployment.
