  1. 1. Exposure Monitoring and Dosimetry - Optimizing Radiation Protection in Interventional Cardiology

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik; Umeå universitet/Institutionen för strålningsvetenskaper

    Author : Amanda Pettersson; [2023]
    Keywords : Interventional cardiology; Radiation protection; Air kerma measurements; Radiation shielding; Projection angle;

    Abstract : During interventional cardiology (IC), medical staff are exposed to scattered ionizing radiation from the patient, potentially leading to various radiation-induced health effects. Therefore, shielding devices are routinely used to reduce occupational exposure during IC procedures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of the DXA radiation environment at Sahlgrenska University Hospital

    University essay from

    Author : Saga Söderholm; [2022-05-18]
    Keywords : Medical physics; DXA; DEXA; Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry; Bone mineral density;

    Abstract : Purpose: The aims of this work were to evaluate the radiation environment in the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) rooms at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, estimate personnel doses, determine legal requirements for DXA personnel, examine the operators’ view on radiation safety and develop material with dose information for patients and operators. Theory: DXA is a low dose X-ray modality mainly used in osteoporosis examinations, for which it is considered the reference technique. READ MORE

  3. 3. EVALUATION OF RADIATION DOSES USING CONE BEAM COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IN ENDOVASCULAR AORTIC REPAIR AND SCOLIOSIS PROCEDURES

    University essay from

    Author : Louise Strandberg; [2021-04-06]
    Keywords : Medical physics; Cone beam CT; CT; EVAR; scoliosis; radiation dose; effective dose;

    Abstract : Purpose: The study includes the two areas, vascular surgery and orthopedics, and focuses on endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) and scoliosis procedures. EVAR procedures contribute to a high radiation dose to the patient and for scoliosis procedures, it is often young girls that are undergoing surgery. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment of image quality in x-ray fluoroscopy based on Model observers as an objective measure for quality control and image optimization

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Fysikum

    Author : Henrik Elgström; [2018]
    Keywords : image quality; fluoroscopy; Model observer;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: Although the Image Quality (IQ) indices calculated by objective Model observers contains more favourable characteristics compared to Figure Of Merits (FOM) derived from the more common subjective evaluations of modern digital diagnostic fluoroscopy units, like CDRAD or the Leeds test-objects, practical issues in form of limited access to unprocessed raw data and intricate laboratory measurements have made the conventional computational methods too inefficient and laborious. One approach of the Statistical Decision Variables (CDV) analysis, made available in the FluoroQuality software, overcome these limitations by calculating the SNR2rate from information entirely based on image frames directly obtained from the imaging system, operating in its usual clinical mode. 5. 5. Dose Determination at kV X-ray Qualities Using Different Protocols

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Sjukhusfysikerutbildningen

    Author : Elias Dellow; [2007]
    Keywords : Strålterapi; Medicine and Health Sciences;

    Abstract : Absorbed dose was determined under reference conditions at four x-ray qualities; 30, 80, 120 and 200 kV using five different dosimetry protocols and codes of practice; IAEA TRS-398, AAPM, IPEMB, NCS and DIN. The dose determined by the IAEA protocol was chosen as reference. READ MORE
