  1. 1. When fake news make the news. A study of journalistic boundaries.

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för journalistik, medier och kommunikation

    Author : Anton Fridolfsson; [2021-07-27]
    Keywords : Fake news; post-truth; professional boundaries; boundary work; journalistic paradigm; propaganda; misleading information;

    Abstract : This thesis takes a spearheaded look at a modern, much-talked about concept of misleading information known as ”fake news”, and how traditional journalists have handled its emergence with regards to their professional boundaries. Built on the premise that who and what is to be considered journalism is a constant battle continuously fought between professional journalists and actors trying to lay claim to their professional territory, through the use of qualitative ethnographic content analysis of 88 journalistic texts, the study’s aim is to take initiative in academic concept development of how to define fake news, and explore in what ways traditional journalists have defended their professional boundaries, in light of the threat provided by the increasing prevalence of misleading content in the information ecosystem, as well as by an anti-establishment, critical of-traditonal-media post-truth culture. 2. 2. Comparing decentralized learning to Federated Learning when training Deep Neural Networks under churn

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Johan Vikström; [2021]
    Keywords : Peer- to- Peer; Decentralized Machine Learning; Federated Learning; Gossip Learning; Long Short- Term Memory; Convolutional Neural Network; Peer- to- peer; Decentraliserad Maskininlärning; Federated learning; Gossip learning; Lång korttidsminne;

    Abstract : Decentralized Machine Learning could address some problematic facets with Federated Learning. There is no central server acting as an arbiter of whom or what may benefit from Machine Learning models created by the vast amount of data becoming available in recent years. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distributed Robust Learning

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Akhil Yerrapragada; [2021]
    Keywords : Byzantine resilient decentralized training; Gradient aggregation rules; α; f Byzantine resilience; Fault tolerance; Ring all-reduce.; Byzantinsk motståndskraftig decentraliserad träning; Gradientaggregeringsregler; α; f Byzantinsk motståndskraft; Feltolerans; Ring allreducera.;

    Abstract : Accuracy obtained when training deep learning models with large amounts of data is high, however, training a model with such huge amounts of data on a single node is not feasible due to various reasons. For example, it might not be possible to fit the entire data set in the memory of a single node, training times can significantly increase since the dataset is huge. READ MORE

  4. 4. Decentralized Large-Scale Natural Language Processing Using Gossip Learning

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Abdul Aziz Alkathiri; [2020]
    Keywords : gossip learning; decentralized machine learning; distributed machine learning; NLP; Word2Vec; data privacy; skvallerinlärning; decentraliserad maskininlärning; distribuerad maskininlärning; naturlig språkbehandling; Word2Vec; dataintegritet;

    Abstract : The field of Natural Language Processing in machine learning has seen rising popularity and use in recent years. The nature of Natural Language Processing, which deals with natural human language and computers, has led to the research and development of many algorithms that produce word embeddings. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimization of Data Propagation Algorithm for Conflict-Free Replicated Data Type-based Datastores in Geo-Distributed Edge Environment

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Vinayak Prabhakar Tejankar; [2020]
    Keywords : Eventual consistency; gossip protocols; edge computing; distributed systems.; Eventuell konsistens; skvallerprotokoll; edge computing; distribuerade system.;

    Abstract : Replication primarily provides data availability by having multiple copies over different systems and is exploited to make distributed systems scalable in num- bers and geographical areas. Placing a replica closer to the source of request can also significantly reduce the time required to service the request, improv- ing applications’ performance. READ MORE
