  1. 1. Measuring copper abundances in the Galactic Bulge

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astrofysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Nikolei Höglinger; [2024]
    Keywords : Copper; Galaxy: abundances; Galaxy: bulge; Chemical Evolution; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Context: The chemical evolution of Cu in the Galactic bulge have been studied in a few studies using red giant branch stars, but the ages of individual red giant stars are difficult to determine. In addition, the bulge has been a challenging region of the Milky Way galaxy to obtain high-resolution spectra of stars, except when observing through certain few small fields into the bulge that are known to have low extinction. 2. 2. Effect of temperature on early stage adhesion during TiAlN sliding against Inconel 718 and Stainless steel 316L : High temperature tribology

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för teknikvetenskap och matematik

    Author : Ahsan Ali; [2023]
    Keywords : High temperature tribology; Early-stage adhesion; Adhesive wear; Friction; Wear resistant coatings; Physical vapour deposition PVD coatings; TiAlN; Tungsten carbide WC Co ; Difficult to machine super alloys; Inconel 718; Stainless steel 316L; High-performance materials; Abrasion; Oxidation; Chipping; Ploughing; Characterization;

    Abstract : High-performance materials such as stainless steels and nickel based super alloys are widely used in demanding applications where high mechanical and thermal properties are required. The applications of super alloys are mainly found in jet engines, power plants and gas turbines demanding high fatigue strength, corrosion and oxidation resistance as well as wear resistant properties. 3. 3. On intermittency in the turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layer

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Edoardo Foschi; [2023]
    Keywords : Turbulence; turbulent boundary layer; intermittency; numerical simulation; DNS; tripping; suction;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a series of direct numerical simulations (DNS) performed in order to understand the discrepancy in the literature regarding turbulent asymptotic suction boundary layers (TASBLs) at low Reynolds numbers. The hypothesis to be tested is that the main reason for higher turbulence intensities observed in experiments compared to DNS is that the latter exhibits intermittent patches of laminar flow, developing both temporally and spatially. 4. 4. Tänk på döden : en undersökning av minneslunden som helande plats i möte med den multifunktionella kyrkogården

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management (from 130101)

    Author : Ellen Sperr; [2023]
    Keywords : minneslund; kyrkogård; gestaltning; multifunktionalitet;

    Abstract : During the last couple of years there has been articles in the news about people, around Sweden, using our cemeteries for recreational purposes. There have been people drinking beer, sledding and having picnic and cities that have defined cemeteries as green areas to be able to fulfil the environmental goals in a new neighbourhood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantification of DNA Nanoballs Using Image Processing Techniques

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Avdelningen Vi3

    Author : Sara Lindberg; [2023]
    Keywords : image analysis; fluorescence microscopy; quantification; DNA; rolling circle amplification; machine learning; deep learning; transfer learning; neural networks;

    Abstract : In gene editing, it is important to identify the number of edited and unedited nucleic acids in the development of new therapies and drugs. Countagen is developing a technology for accelerating genomic research and their product is called GeneAbacus. READ MORE
