  1. 1. Insights Into Wind Profile Characteristics in the Arctic Marine Boundary Layer

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Charlotte Sophie Gausa; [2024]
    Keywords : Arctic; wind profile power law; MOST; boundary layer; low level jets; sea ice; vindprofil; Arktis; gränsskikt; vindenergi; låghöjdsvindar; havsis;

    Abstract : The atmospheric boundary layer in the Arctic is essential for the understanding of climate change and improving regional weather prediction. The aim of this study is to investigate to which degree wind speed profiles retrieved in the Arctic agree with well known wind profile concepts and understand which local impact factors influence the wind speed profile. 2. 2. Characterisation of Low-Level Jets and their Influence on Low-Level Clouds over the Baltic Sea; Östergarnsholm Observatory, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik

    Author : Johan Lundberg; [2021]
    Keywords : Low-level jets; Low-level clouds; LLJs; LLCs; Boundary layer; ABL; CBH; Lidar; Ceilometer; Turbulent intensity; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this study, about two years of data from Östergarnsholm in the Baltic Sea are used to analyse offshore low-level clouds (LLCs) influenced by low-level jets (LLJs) in the marine atmospheric boundary layer. The LLJs are passages of strong horizontal winds near the surface and are measured using a Doppler LiDAR, which provides information about the wind speed and wind direction up to 300 meters. 3. 3. Flux Attenuation due to Sensor Displacement over Sea

    University essay from Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Erik Nilsson; [2007]
    Keywords : Meteorology; Attenuation; Sensible Heat Flux; Eddy Correlation; Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer; Complex Error Function;

    Abstract : In this study the flux attenuation due to sensor displacement has been investigated over sea using an extensive set of data from the "Ocean Horizontal Array Turbulence Study". All previous investigations of the flux attenuation have been performed over land. READ MORE

  4. 4. Humidity Structures in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Andreas Svensson; [2002]
    Keywords : marine boundary layer; air-sea interaction; Dalton number; turbulent fluxes; quadrant analysis;

    Abstract : The turbulence structure over the sea was studied with the emphasis on humidity. The data sets used came from the island of Östergarnsholm outside Gotland in the Baltic Sea. The study included spectral and quadrant analyses of the wind, temperature and humidity parameters from one measuring level. READ MORE

  5. 5. Turbulence structures in a non-stationary marine atmospheric boundary layer

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Meteorologiska institutionen

    Author : Ulf Andrae; [1996]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The vertical structure in the coastal marine atmosphere has been investigated using data from aircraft measurements performed along the Blekinge coast. The present data are from the third of October 1990. READ MORE
