  1. 1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  2. 2. Off-State Stress Effects in AlGaN/GaN HEMTs : Investigation of high-voltage off-state stress impact on performance of and its retention in hybrid-drain ohmic gate AlGaN/GaN HEMTs

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Ivan Krsic; [2023]
    Keywords : HEMT; GaN; off-state stress; memory effects; drain leakage current; dynamic RDSon; threshold voltage instabilities; charge redistribution; HEMT; GaN; stress i avslaget tillstånd; minneseffekter; läckströmmen; dynamisk RDSon; instabiliteten hos styrets tröskelspänning; omfördelningen av laddningar;

    Abstract : High electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) realized using AlxGa1-xN/GaN are relatively new technology which is prominent for high-speed and high-power applications. Some of the main problems with this technology were identified as dynamic RDSon, current collapse and threshold voltage instabilities due to the off-state stress. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Effect of Economic Policy Uncertainty on Swedish Exports during the 2008 Financial Crisis

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Ekonomisk-historiska institutionen

    Author : Andrea Wigert; [2023]
    Keywords : Financial Crisis; Economic Policy Uncertainty; Sweden; Germany; the UK; the Netherlands; Exports; Business and Economics;

    Abstract : The thesis aims to answer the research question: To what extent was the increased Economic Policy Uncertainty during the Financial Crisis associated with the decline in Swedish exports from January 2007 to January 2010? During the 2008 Financial Crisis, Swedish trade fell by ten percentage points, slightly more than the world average. The thesis aims to investigate whether the increased EPU at the time affected the decreased exports. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantification of DNA Nanoballs Using Image Processing Techniques

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Avdelningen Vi3

    Author : Sara Lindberg; [2023]
    Keywords : image analysis; fluorescence microscopy; quantification; DNA; rolling circle amplification; machine learning; deep learning; transfer learning; neural networks;

    Abstract : In gene editing, it is important to identify the number of edited and unedited nucleic acids in the development of new therapies and drugs. Countagen is developing a technology for accelerating genomic research and their product is called GeneAbacus. READ MORE

  5. 5. Centralised MPC for Long-term Voltage Stability Control of Power System

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Johan Hallberg; [2023]
    Keywords : Voltage stability; Model predictive control; Tap-changing transformer; Capacitor bank; Spänningsstabilitet; Model prediktiv reglering; Lindningskopplare; Kondensatorbank;

    Abstract : In a power system it is important to keep voltages at specific levels at network buses. Deviations from that can lead to reduced efficiency of transferred power or, in more severe cases, widespread power outages affecting large parts of society. There exists a variety of power system devices that have the ability to regulate the voltage levels. READ MORE
