  1. 1. Void Evolution and Cosmic Star Formation

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Joel Wasserman; [2023]
    Keywords : Void; Void Evolution; Cosmic Void; Star Formation Rate; Star Formation History; Cosmic Star Formation; Cosmology; Spherical Evolution Model; SvdW; Vdn; Excursion Set Theory; Excursion Set Formalism; Astrophysics; Astronomy; Cosmic Web; Matter Transfer; Tomrum; Tomrumsutveckling; Kosmiska Tomrum; Stjärnbildningshastighet; Stjärnbildningshistorik; Kosmisk stjärnbildning; Kosmologi; Sfärisk Evolutionsmodell; SvdW; Vdn; Exkursionsset teori; Exkursionsset Formalism; Astrofysik; Astronomi; Kosmiska Spindelnätet; Masstransport;

    Abstract : The rate at which stars have formed throughout the history of theuniverse is not constant, it started out slow, increased until around redshift ∼ 2 when it reversed and became slower again. The reason for this behaviour is still being investigated with various models and simulations usually based upon dark matter halos. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Largest Void and Cluster in Non-Standard Cosmology

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk astrofysik

    Author : Sveva Castello; [2020]
    Keywords : Cosmology; f R gravity; galaxy clusters; cosmic voids; extreme value statistics;

    Abstract : We employ observational data about the largest cosmic void and most massive galaxy cluster known to date, the 'Cold Spot' void and the 'El Gordo' cluster, in order to constrain the parameter |fR0| from the f(R) gravity formulation by Hu and Sawicki and the matter power spectrum normalization at present time, σ8. We obtain the marginalized posterior distribution for these two parameters through a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis, where the likelihood function is modeled through extreme value statistics. 3. 3. Galaxy clusters and cosmic voids in modified gravity scenarios

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk astrofysik

    Author : Sveva Castello; [2019]
    Keywords : Cosmology; galaxy clusters; cosmic voids; f R gravity;

    Abstract : The so-called 'cosmic web', comprising cosmic voids and galaxy clusters, has been proven to be extremely sensitive to deviations from General Relativity. This could be further investigated by future large-scale surveys, such as with the European Space Agency satellite Euclid. READ MORE
