  1. 1. Strengthening of non-composite bridges by Partial Composite Action

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Johan Tjernberg; [2022]
    Keywords : Composite action; Composite bridges; Partial shear connection; Partial Composite Action; Shear connectors; Coiled Spring Pins;

    Abstract : A common bridge type is the steel-concrete bridge where the concrete deck is built over steel girders. In many earlier designs the bridge type was often built as non-composite, which means that the concrete deck and the steel girder has no shear connection at the steel-concrete interface and therefore bend as individual components. 2. 2. Rheology of dense particle suspensions in linear over-damped flow

    University essay from KTH/Strömningsmekanik och Teknisk Akustik

    Author : Salar Zamani Salimi; [2021]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Suspensions are composed of mixtures of particles and fluid and are omnipresent in natural phenomena and in industrial processes. While hydrodynamic interactions or lubrication forces between the particles are important in the dilute regime, they become of lesser significance when the concentration is increased, and direct particle contacts become dominant in the rheological response of concentrated suspensions, particularly those close to the maximum volume fraction where the suspension ceases to flow. 3. 3. Numerical Solvers of the p-Stokes Equations with Applications in Ice-Sheet Dynamics

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Sebastian Myrbäck; Jonatan Risberg; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In glacier dynamics – i.e. the field of research concerning the movement of ice – intricate mathematical models are used to describe its motion. Ice can be considered as a highly viscous, non-Newtonian fluid, obeying a set of equations closely related to the well-known Navier-Stokes equations describing classical fluid mechanics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical simulation of an inertial spheroidal particle in Stokes flow

    University essay from KTH/Numerisk analys, NA

    Author : Joar Bagge; [2015]
    Keywords : Fluid mechanics; Stokes flow; rigid body dynamics; spheroidal particles; inertia; integral equations; boundary integrals; double layer potentials; quadrature by expansion; Jeffery orbits; linear shear flow; quadratic flow; paraboloidal flow; Strömningsmekanik; Stokesflöde; stelkroppsdynamik; sfäroidiska partiklar; tröghet; integralekvationer; randintegraler; dubbellagerpotentialer; quadrature by expansion; Jeffery-banor; linjärt skjuvflöde; kvadratiskt flöde; paraboloidiskt flöde;

    Abstract : Particle suspensions occur in many situations in nature and industry. In this master’s thesis, the motion of a single rigid spheroidal particle immersed in Stokes flow is studied numerically using a boundary integral method and a new specialized quadrature method known as quadrature by expansion (QBX). 5. 5. Modeling and Simulation of Elastic Rods with Intrinsic Curvature and Twist Immersed in Fluid

    University essay from KTH/Numerisk analys, NA

    Author : Babak Maboudi Afkham; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Understanding the dynamics of thin elastic rods that are immersed in fluid is fundamental in explaining many problems that arise in biology, physics and engineering. Solving the coupled system of rod-fluid in 3D is usually very costly, however in case of low Reynolds number, the three-dimensional problem can be reduced a one-dimensional problem on the centerline of the rod.
