  1. 1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spatialized Sonification for the Learning of Surgical Navigation

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Alexander Danielsson; [2023]
    Keywords : Spatial Audio; Sonification; Surgical Simulations; Minimally invasive Surgery; Psychoacoustics; Spatial Ljud; Sonifikation; Kirurgiska Simulationer; Minimalinvasiv kirurgi; Psykoakustik;

    Abstract : Historically, the education of surgical navigation in minimally invasive neurosurgery has been constrained by several factors. Medical students have been required to physically be in the operating room to observe a teacher perform the different procedures. This restricts their opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience in their field. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Slow Spread of Environmentally Friendly Action : An agent-based model simulation of social networks

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Sociologiska institutionen

    Author : Till Kolligs; [2023]
    Keywords : network analysis; agent based model; tipping point; climate action; complex contagion; vegetarianism;

    Abstract : The adoptation of environmentally friendly behaviour is rather slow, although the climate crisis is pressing. This thesis aims to understand the slow adoption of environmentally friendly behaviour, specifically focusing on vegetarianism and veganism, by employing social network analysis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Climate impact of ultra-processed foods in the Swedish diet

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Hanna Maria Linnéa Eneroth; [2023]
    Keywords : climate impact; culinary ingredients; diet; food consumption; food processing; greenhouse gas emissions; minimally processed foods; NOVA; ultra-processed foods;

    Abstract : The climate impact associated with food consumption is large. The size of the impact depend on the type of food and how it is produced. Food systems are currently changing and urbanization and increased affluence of consumers have led to an overall increase in food consumption and a rise in consumption of processed foods globally. 5. 5. "Well you know I almost died" : Topic Choices and Constructions of Conjoint Humour in Podcasts in Same- and Mixed-gender Groups

    University essay from Mälardalens universitet/Akademin för utbildning, kultur och kommunikation

    Author : Matilda Wrigsell; [2023]
    Keywords : gender; conversation analysis CA ; pragmatic force; discursive effect; humour; topic choice; podcasts;

    Abstract : This study aims to investigate topic choices of humour as well as how humour is conjointly constructed in podcasts, with particular focus on the similarities and differences between men and women in both same- and mixed-gender groups. Six podcasts were chosen to be investigated through two different methods: 1. READ MORE
