  1. 1. Analysis of polyfunctional thiols in beer : Developing a novel method of extraction and analysis using GC-FID

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Arvid Lindmark; [2022]
    Keywords : Beer; Hops; Thiols; 3MHA; 4MMP; Food Technology; Agriculture and Food Sciences;

    Abstract : In this project, attempts were made to identify and quantify two polyfunctional thiols – 4-mercapto-4-methyl-pentanone and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate – and three monoterpene alcohols – linalool, geraniol, and β-citronellol – in beer samples. In order to avoid the use of hazardous compounds such as dichloromethane and hydroxymercuriobenzoate, common in traditional methods, two novel techniques were tested: a pure liquid-liquid extraction of the beer samples with cyclohexane, and a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane followed by solid phase extraction on silver ion columns. 2. 2. The role of terpenes produced by Brassica napus in interactions with Verticillium longisporum

    University essay from SLU/Department of Plant Biology (from 140101)

    Author : Alessandra Ruffino; [2020]
    Keywords : Verticillium longisporum; terpenes; Brassica napus; Arabidopsis thaliana;

    Abstract : Verticillium longisporum is responsible for severe yield losses, especially of oilseed rape (Brassica napus). Rapeseed is the third most important source of vegetable oil worldwide. The need to increase rapeseed oil yield is not only because is a source of healthy vegetable oil but also because it is used as a biodiesel. READ MORE

  3. 3. Estimation of the potential BVOC emissions by the different tree species in Malmö

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Larissa Lisa Gesa Scholz; [2019]
    Keywords : BVOC emissions; isoprene; monoterpene; air quality; Malmö; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : BVOC emissions from trees contribute to ozone and secondary aerosol formation and therefore have an impact on air quality. The two most abundant BVOCs emitted from trees are isoprene and monoterpenes. READ MORE

  4. 4. The link between secondary organic aerosol and monoterpenes at a boreal forest site

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Ying Zhou; [2017]
    Keywords : physical geography; ecosystem analysis; BVOC; SOA; Monoterpenes; temperature; relative humidity; wind; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) plays a significant role in climate change by altering the global atmospheric radiation budget. Biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) are major sources for the formation of SOA. READ MORE
