  1. 1. Evaluation of a stochastic model of coherent turbulent structures for atmospheric particle deposition applications

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Author : Andreas Eriksson; [2022]
    Keywords : atmospheric dispersion; particle deposition; k-epsilon; RANS; lagrangian particle model; stochastic particle model; OpenFOAM; SIMPLE algorithm; ABL; atmospheric boundary layer; neutral boundary layer; coherent turbulent structures;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we have evaluated a stochastic Lagrangian model for computing particle deposition rates with prospects to use for atmospheric deposition applications.  The model is one-dimensional and models the particle dynamics in the boundary layers near walls and obstacles by simulating the coherent turbulent structures and Brownian motion governing the wall-normal transport. 2. 2. Deep learning for non-intrusive sensing in turbulence with passive scalars

    University essay from KTH/Strömningsmekanik och Teknisk Akustik

    Author : Arivazhagan Geetha Balasubramanian; [2021]
    Keywords : Turbulent boundary layer; passive scalar; direct numerical simulation; Prandtl number; Machine learning; convolutional neural network; Turbulent gränsskikt; passiv skalär; direkt numerisk simulering; Prandtl-nummer; maskininlärning; faltningsneurala nätverk;

    Abstract : The near-wall modelling of turbulent flows has been an active field of research due to the computational cost associated with the direct numerical simulations of such flow, which are characterized by a wide range of length and time scales. With the recent advancements in technological capabilities, the availability of high-fidelity data has enabled the construction of data-driven approaches to model turbulence. READ MORE

  3. 3. Machine Learning Applications To Turbulence

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Mathias Näreaho; Linus Lundvall; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : By using a fully convolutional neural network, accurate predictions are made of turbulent flows in an open channel. The flow fields were predicted at two different heights y+ = 15,50 in the wall-normal direction. The effect of different input parameters of the neural network have been studied by generating two neural network models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Galaxy evolution in extreme environments

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Author : Samhitha Vadlamani; [2019]
    Keywords : Galaxy evolution; interactions; starburst; Compact galaxy groups; Stephan s Quintet; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Interactions play a crucial role in determining how galaxies evolve in terms of their morphologies and star formation histories, since the majority of the known galaxies in the nearby Universe are found to exist in groups. Compact groups of galaxies are of particular interest as they contain a small number of galaxies in dense configurations and host repeated interactions between them, enabling us to capture signatures of these interactions (e. 5. 5. The performance of CFD RANS models in predicting wind loads on flat plates: A comparative study with DNS

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Elin DAHLQVIST; [2016]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Att kunna förutspå vindlaster är viktigt för att kunna optimera kostnaden för takmonterade solsystem, och en både lovande och allt mer populär metod för att gra detta är att använda sig av CFD. Denna studie undersökte hur olika RANS modeller presterar i att förutspå ett normalt vinklat flöde mot en platt platta för fyra olika förhållanden mellan plattans kortsida och långsida. READ MORE
