  1. 1. Improving the Accuracy of FFT-based GPGPU Ocean Surface Simulations

    University essay from Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för data- och informationsteknik

    Author : Jacob Eriksson; Joakim Wingård; [2022-12-01]
    Keywords : computer graphics; 3D graphics; real-time rendering; Fourier transform; FFT; simulation; GPGPU; interactive; ocean wave spectrum; oceanography;

    Abstract : In this paper, we explore how the current state of the art in real-time ocean simulations can be improved in terms of simulation accuracy, while preserving performance. Current methods, both in academia and in the industry, simulate an ocean model in frequency space on the GPU, convert said model on an approximately frame-byframe basis to the spatial domain using the Fourier transform, and then read back the resulting heightfield to the CPU as input to the application’s physics engine. 2. 2. Propagation of Radio Waves in a Realistic Environment using a Parabolic Equation Approach

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Teoretisk Fysik

    Author : Jonas Ehn; [2019]
    Keywords : Electromagnetic fields; wave propagation; radar; parabolic equation; split-step Fourier method;

    Abstract : Radars are used for range estimation of distant objects. They operate on the principle of sending electromagnetic pulses that are reflected off a target. This leads to the propagation of electromagnetic waves over large distances. As the waves propagate, they are affected by several aspects that decrease the performance of the radar system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ocean Waves Estimation : An Artificial Intelligence Approach

    University essay from Mälardalens högskola/Akademin för innovation, design och teknik

    Author : Andreas Ramberg; [2017]
    Keywords : Artificial Intelligence; Case-Based Reasoning; Encounter Angle; Encounter Spectrum; Feedforward Neural Network; Genetic Algorithm; Inverse Problem; Marine Vessels; Master Thesis; MATLAB; Model Parameter Estimation; Ocean Theory; Peak Period; Response Amplitude Operator; Ships; Significant Wave Height; Transfer Function; Wave Spectrum; Waves;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to solve the mathematical inverse problem of characterizing sea waves based on the responses obtained from a marine vessel sailing under certain sea conditions. By researching this problem the thesis contributes to the marine industry by improving products that are using ocean behavior for controlling ship's dynamics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Estimation and prediction of wave input and system states based on local hydropressure and machinery response measurements

    University essay from KTH/Optimeringslära och systemteori

    Author : Quentin Laurent; [2016]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Waves represent a big untapped energy source and many are endeavouring to develop Wave Energy Converters (WEC) to harvest this resource. The goal of this thesis, carried out with the young technology company CorPower Ocean AB, is to enable a better control of the company’s WEC by providing control strategies with a prediction of the input force on the device, also called excitation force. 5. 5. Uncertainties introduced by the ocean surface when conducting airborne lidar bathymetry surveys

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Atomfysik

    Author : Torbjörn Karlsson; [2011]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : A method for investigating how the ocean surface aects the accuracy of Airborne Lidar Bathymetry surveys, (ALB), due to environmental conditions, was developed. Computer graphic techniques were examined and utilized for construction of realistic ocean surfaces. READ MORE
