It is important to address this issue by managing waste effectively and reducing its environmental impact. The purpose of this research is to provide a broad overview of food waste management and its implication on greenhouse gasses. The focus will mostly be on the seafood supply chain and the challenges and opportunities regarding the improvement of waste management in Västra Götaland, with the help of logistic approaches. The methodology is based on a qualitative approach where a literature review has been conducted to get a better understanding of the topic and interviews have been conducted with actors involved in the food/seafood supply chain, in order to provide us with a practical perspective. This thesis has emphasized the crucial role of waste management systems in the food supply chain. At every stage of the chain, waste is generated, making it essential to adopt effective management strategies to minimize the adverse environmental impact. It is imperative for all actors involved in the supply chain to address the challenges associated with food waste, food security, and sustainable food production. By leveraging modern technology, implementing food safety practices, fostering collaboration among actors and stakeholders.
