User Evaluations for Systems Aimed at Domain Experts

Abstract: A case study was completed to complete a usability evaluation following the ISO standards and heuristic evaluation on a prototype for a newly defined central pharmacist position at Akademiska Sjukhuset.  From this study, it was found that there were several unique issues that were identified only in the usability study that were not found in the heuristic analysis: assessment of patient warnings, the time it takes to evaluate the warnings and the evaluation methods the test subjects used. This information is important for further design and development and showed that usability testing for domain experts added value to early development.
